Episode 332: Blitzkriegs and Cord Cutting

April 29, 2017

The league was back in action.  The Turkish Cup kicked off the semifinal round.  However, it would be off the field issues that overshadowed play.  This is going to be a long episode so you have been warned.

Week 28 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  Istanbul Basaskehir got a bit of a reality check in Rize, although their players would make news after the game was over.  Besiktas beat Adanaspor, but Adanaspor did put up a good fight.  The derby was bad; nothing more needs to be said.  Kayserispor have now made the relegation battle interesting.  The week 29 schedule gets the rundown, and this week features the potential league decider in Istanbul Basaksehir against Besiktas.

The fallout from the post-match activities from Istanbul Basaksehir is discussed.  The discussion would eventually take a turn towards TV ratings for beINSports Turkey and the amount of money they paid for Super League broadcast rights.  There’s even a discussion about cord cutting and if that could affect Turkish soccer viewing in the future.

The Turkish Cup semifinals kicked off this past week.  The first legs of the semifinals are reviewed.  Kasimpasa needed only a few minutes to beat Konyaspor.  As for the other match, Fenerbahce seems to have the advantage.

News this week is highlighted by a tragedy in Gaziantep.  Kayserispor will have to look for a new head coach.  But the main discussion this week concerns Gaziantepspor’s Frantisek Rajtoral committing suicide.  The pundits take a look at the situation and the social issues surrounding it.

Episode 331: Interest Where There Is No Interest

April 20, 2017

The referendum has come and gone.  Whether democracy has spoken remains up for debate.  But the league is back in action this weekend.

Week 28 schedule of the Turkish Super League is given a rundown.  The Galatasaray-Fenerbahce derby is this coming weekend, but is anybody really interested?  Another interesting matchup involves Antalyaspor hosting Trabzonspor.  The real focus though is on the two title contenders.

The final seven matches of the title contenders are reviewed.  Who has the easier schedule (at least on paper)?  What are the key matches that will determine where the title is going?  Where’s the proverbial gauntlet in the schedule?  The pundits break the schedules down.

Not much in terms of news this week, although Alanyaspor might have a problem considering one of their forwards is injured.  It was a thriller in the Vodafone Arena, as the second leg of the Besiktas-Lyon tie is reviewed.  It was a heartbreaker for Besiktas, but it looks as though they can hold their heads up high.

Episode 330: Fun, Fun, Fun Until Daddy Takes The Black Eagles Away

April 15, 2017

Apologies for the tardiness of this episode, but there aren’t any league games this weekend due to the referendum.  Plus, it gives the guys a bit of time to fully delve into the subjects.  This is especially true when it comes to some extracurricular activity in France.

Week 27 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  There was a thriller in Trabzon.  Gaziantepspor blew a golden chance to close the gap to safety.  Istanbul Basaksehir put up a whupping on Galatasaray, but did Galatasaray really care?  Rizespor won against Adanaspor, and Adanaspor could look to be done.

The news discussion this week concentrates on Adanaspor.  Adanaspor is now on their third coach this season.  It looks like they might be done and the pundits discuss developments over at the club.

The first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal tie between Olympique Lyon and Besiktas is discussed.  The game is discussed as well as the extracurricular activates before the match.  Also, the pundits speculate if any of the clubs will get a sanction from UEFA.
