Episode 307: League Falsification

October 28, 2016

This episode is quite long this week, and anyone who knows the pundits can guess why.  Also, for those of you who are put off by curse words, the curse words will not be bleeped this time around.  So fair warning to all, as listener discretion is advised.

Week 8 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  The pundits debate on a couple of tackles, one that led to a goal and the other leading to a yellow card.  A red card in the Besiktas-Antalyaspor match would be the focal point of that match (much to the chagrin of one of the hosts).  Trabzonspor pulled off a nice upset on the road, and it seemed that they had some extra motivation to do so.  The week 9 schedule gets the rundown.  A part of the schedule is scrutinized due to the day of a match involving one team competing in Europe.

The TFF 1st division gets highlighted this week.  There was a brawl in Izmir betweenGoztepe and Eskisehirspor which led to the match being abandoned.  The ruling from the PFDK was handed down as the podcast was being recorded so the sanction gets debated.  Also in regards to the TFF 1st division, another club got a sanction for not paying wages and transfer fees.  In addition, Caner Erkin suffered a pretty bad injury, and the pundits debate his recovery.

The major news of the week relates to a chairman announcement.  Ali Koc, who’s part of the richest family in Turkey, announced that he will be a candidate for the chairmanship of Fenerbahce in their next congress (extraordinary or otherwise).  The pundits debate Koc’s announcement and there’s a special cameo during this discussion.

The issue of fixture congestion comes up again.  The issue of Yeni Malatyaspor’s elimination from the Turkish Cup comes up and whether elimination from the Turkish Cup by TFF 1st division sides might benefit them in their quest for promotion.

The podcast wraps up with a look ahead to European club competition for the Champions League and Europa League.

Episode 306: Need Medication For My Fixture Congestion

October 21, 2016

Kaan Bayazit returns to the podcast again this week.  The usual back and forth ensues.

The league gets its usual review and preview this week.  The leaders seemed to have struggled (according to one pundit anyway).  The pundits then talk about Europe.  Besiktas won in the Champions League, although one of their goals should not have been countred according to some.  Fenerbahce had a night to forget in Manchester.  Konyaspor didn’t have much to show, while Osmanlispor might have been screwed by the referee with one player ejected harshly.  The guys also get into a debate about fixture congestion and what a team should prioritize.

(There might be some audio issues in the second segment.  Ata’s audio might come out a bit quiet.  We’re trying a new Skype recording program due to issues with previous recording software.  Also, Ata used a different microphone for the second segment.  Kaan turned out fine, although it may get loud at times.)

Episode 305: Fatih Terim Is A Dinosaur

October 13, 2016

Ata didn’t get to meet up with Jeremy when he was in DC.  With Jeremy now moving to Germany, Kaan Bayazit gets back in the pundit chair, and hijinks will ensue.

Turkey didn’t fare so well in World Cup qualifying last weekend.  The guys break down the matches with Ukraine and Iceland.  With many people in Turkish football media circles calling for Fatih Terim’s head, the guys discuss Terim’s shortcomings and even some choices for the next coach when Terim is eventually let go from the job.

The Turkish Super League gets back into action with week seven, and the guys give this weekend’s schedule a rundown.  With continental action back in swing, the pundits also look at the upcoming fixtures. Finally this week, the issue of the lack of broadcasting with the TFF 1st division has been resolved, and the pundits discuss this development.

Episode 304: Terim Snubs Turan… Again

October 6, 2016

Jeremy is back for this week.  He’s set to move out of Indiana though.  At least Ata will meet up with him for next week (we hope).

Week 6 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  There are a few referee calls that highlighted some of the games this week.  With the international break coming up, the pundits take a look at the roster for World Cup qualifying.  Arda Turan got snubbed, but a certain defender is back on the team.  The pundits debate the Turan snubbing as he is not selected for the second international break in succession.
