Episode 303: Technical Gremlins, Don’t Feed Them After Midnight

September 30, 2016

The pundits from last week were set to take over again this week.  Unfortunately, technical issues came up with the recording.  So Ata Dizdar had to cut his self-imposed hiatus short for this quickie episode.

A summary of the week 5 results starts off this week’s episode.  The week 6 schedule is then given a rundown.  Not much in terms of news this week, except for Trabzonspor, it was a bit of bad news.  As for Turkish clubs in UEFA competition, only Fenerbahce seemed to have a good result.  Everyone else seemed to come up a bit short.  The TFF 1st division is featured this week, as a rare goal from a goalkeeper is highlighted.

Episode 302: Let’s Hope Everyone Understands Their English

September 22, 2016

This episode is a bit different from the rest of the episodes in the podcast’s history.  Kaan Bayazit steps into the hosting chair with both Jeremy and Ata out due to various reasons.  Yordi Yamali, who hosts the Dutch language FC Afkicken show on YouTube, fills in as co-host.

Week 4 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  The week 5 schedule gets a rundown as well, which features the first Istanbul big 3 derby of the season.  News this week features a discussion on Antalyaspor issuing a suspension to Samuel Eto’o for a post on Instagram.  Finally, the UEFA matches involving Turkish teams are previewed.

Episode 301: Panic! At The Lighthouse?

September 17, 2016

It’s still early days, but let’s not hit the panic button, right?  Right?

Week 3 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  The schedule for Week 4 gets a rundown (please keep in mind that we recorded late Thursday night in the US, so some games might have been played already).

The European action is reviewed.  Both Besiktas and Fenerbahce left it late for draws.  Osmanlispor continues their historic European run.  For Konyaspor, their European debut didn’t go so well.  To be fair though, at least they gave it a good effort.

The podcast concludes with a discussion on whether the Turkish national anthem should be played before Turkish Super League games.  This was inspired by a listener tweeting to the podcast’s Twitter account in regards to the subject.

Episode 300: Hello Kitty, You are the Butt of All Jokes

September 9, 2016

After a lengthy episode last week, we return with a much shorter episode this week.  The international break is over, and we’re back to club action now.

The Croatia-Turkey match in 2018 World Cup qualifying gets reviewed.  The guys look at the game itself, who was the real MVP so to speak, and how this squad is now a work in progress.

The pundits then talk about the week 3 schedule of the Turkish Super League, as well as the matchups for UEFA club competitions.  They also lament at the lack of TV deal to broadcast the TFF 1st division games.

The pundits then conclude the episode with a brief discussion on Fenerbahce getting Hello Kitty as a sponsor.

Episode 299: Masticating is the Word of the Week

September 4, 2016

Apologies for this being late, but we figured there was no rush since there’s only one match that really matters this weekend anyway.  It’s a pretty lengthy one though.

Week 2 results of the Turkish Super League get reviewed.  One of the major highlights was the direct red card of Fenerbahce’s Simon Kjaer, and the guys talk about that.  The other results get the rundown, although we do have to say it is early days.

The Europa League draw was held and the three Turkish clubs there found out who they will play in the group stages.  The pundits debate the chances of said teams to advance.  Also, Konak Belediyesi has their UEFA Women’s Champions League adventure come to an end.

With the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign set to begin, the pundits take a look at the call-ups.  One blatant omission sticks out like a sore thumb.  Also, the guys get into an impromptu debate about the playing of national anthems before sporting events.  This would have to do with the backlash Emre Mor received from social media for chewing gum during the playing of the Turkish national anthem, before the Russia friendly.

The summer window for transfers is now shut.  The pundits discuss some of the moves that interested them.  Also, Akhisar Belediyespor provided a curveball right before the recording session.  The guys also discuss a certain loophole in UEFA’s Financial Fair Play policy that perhaps Turkish clubs could’ve taken an advantage of.
