Episode 294: The Eto’o Runaround?

July 29, 2016

We’re going to keep this short and sweet this week.

The European qualifiers are reviewed.  Fenerbahce still have all to play for against Monaco.  Istanbul Basaksehir might have bored the view but they have a shot.  Osmanlispor has one foot into the next round, but didn’t impress.  Actually, all three teams didn’t impress.

Two bits of news on the transfer have the pundits interested this week.  The first one is the ordeal surround Samuel Eto’o and him agreeing personal terms with Besiktas.  Antalyaspor, however, had other plans.  The other transfer news deals with Fabian Castillo and his proposed move to Trabzonspor.  It seems there’s a bit more to the move than a usual transfer.

Episode 293: Looks Like Mario Gomez Flew The Coup

July 23, 2016

It seems that another player wants out of Turkey.  Considering what happened in the previous weekend, who would be surprised?  Although there is also on field matters to be concerned about as well, with the qualifiers and the season fixtures being drawn.

The second leg of the Europa League second qualifying round between Osmanlispor and Zimbru is reviewed.  It seems as though Osmanlispor had a good time in Ankara.  Also, the draws for the third qualifying rounds of the Champions League and Europa League respectively were held.  The guys talk about who has it tough in the next round.  The pundits also briefly touch on the Women’s Champions League and who Konak Belediyesi will face.  Also, the season fixtures were drawn, and the guys run down the matchups for the opening weekend.  (Although somebody should’ve remembered that Istanbul Basaksehir hosts Fenerbahce in the opening weekend and not the other way around)

The major news this week comes as a result of the attempted coup.  Mario Gomez announced that he would not return to Besiktas due to the political situation.  The pundits debate the situation, and also discuss the news of the week.  The guys discuss the issue of whether clubs will be able to make transfers (or the transfers that the clubs would like to make) after the attempted coup, with particular emphasis on the big three Istanbul clubs.

Episode 292: You Might As Well Head To MLS

July 15, 2016

We’ve got some football to talk about as we come back.  Some people though may want out of Turkey, whether of their own volition or otherwise.

The first leg of the Europa League second qualifying roundbetween Osmanlispor and Zimbru is reviewed. There seems to be kinks worked out of Osmanlispor’s system, but theyseem to be looking good for the second leg.

News this week covers a few topics from the past week.  Fenerbahce has acquired a couple of playersfor defensive purposes.  Gokhan Tore isheading back to England.  Trabzonsporgets a shirt sponsor, and while money is money, where it’s coming from is a bitsuspect.  Also, some Turkish leaguereferees have been given a demotion for some reason or another.

Two players could possibly head out of Turkey, but fordiffering reasons.  Wesley Sneijder gotfined pretty heavily by Galatasaray, and the guys discuss whether this is aploy to perhaps force him (and his high salary) out of the club.  They also debate Jose Sosa and his desire toleave Besiktas due to the current security situation within Turkey.

Episode 291: Gokhan Gonul Spreads His Wings

July 3, 2016

The dog days of summer are dragging on.  But a particular right back has made for some interesting debate.

The major news of the week was outside of the football circles this week.  As you may have heard, there was a terrorist attack at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul.  The guys discuss how this will affect transfers and such going forward.

In terms of inside football circles, Besiktas signing Gokhan Gonul as a free agent caused quite a stir.  The guys talk about the move.  Keep in mind that this was recorded this past Thursday as we are releasing so they go by what they knew at that time (but we will give you the details beforehand).

As noted on this week’s episode, the podcast will be on hiatus next week.  We will be back in two weeks just in time for Osmanlispor to begin their European path.
