Episode 277: I’m More of a Bağdat Caddesi Guy

March 25, 2016

For some strange reason, we decided to streamline this week’s episode.  It seems to have worked out well.

Week 26 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  We give the Round Ball in Ankara blog a shoutout for their review of the Osmanlispor-Genclerbirligi.  Jeremy throws out a few statistics.  The main topic of discussion concerns the postponement of the Galatasaray-Fenerbahce derby.  One particular point is made as to how the recent bombings in Turkey could potentially affect players staying in Turkey or clubs attempting to sign players in the offseason.

The podcast wraps up with our rundown of the results in the PTT 1st division and women’s 1st division.  There are some gaps forming in the PTT standings.  Also, there was some bad news coming out of the Adana derby this past weekend.  As for the women, the champion has been determined, the relegated teams are determined, and the last weekend’s games are dead rubbers.

Episode 276: The Braga Screwjob

March 18, 2016

Jeremy is back on the podcast.  Considering the refereeing of a certain referee, the other pundit may be in for a rant.

Week 25 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  There are a couple of calls in the Trabzonspor-Besiktas match that the pundits discuss.  Also, the relegation dogfight gets interesting.  Also, the Eskisehirspor-Akhsar Belediyespor match had a nice brawl, and the pundits discuss the tying goal which led to that.  The week 26 schedule is given a rundown.  Outside of the derby, there are a few other matches that should interest people.

The 2nd leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie between Braga and Fenerbahce is reviewed. Put it this way, there’s more discussion on the referee and his calls than the actual game.  Galatasaray hires a new coach for the rest of the season, with their interim coach only allowed to coach for a short time due to not having a license.

The podcast wraps up with our rundown of the results in the PTT 1st division and it’s still wild and wooly down there.  The women’s top flight returns to action this weekend.  We had mistakenly said that the matches in week 17 would be last week but those matches are this week.

(Oh and we have an outtake at the end of the outro music)

Episode 274: Cim Bom Kaboom?

March 4, 2016

The derby involving two Istanbul big three clubs came and went.  But it would be the other Istanbul big 3 club that would make the headlines for this week.

Week 23 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  While the Fenerbahce-Besiktas makes took precedence, there were other stories coming out of the weekend.  Genclerbirligi continued their good run of form, and Konyaspor keeps the good times rolling.  Trabzonspor looked to put the debacle of the previous week behind then, but didn’t succeed.  As for Galatasaray, it’s still a downward spiral.  The week 24 schedule discussion focuses on the matchups involving the two leaders in the Super League standings.  But there are other matches to look forward to as well.

The Turkish Cup wrapped up quarterfinal play.  The semifinal ties are set and the pundits briefly discuss those matchups.  One team made some history for itself.

The news this week concentrates more on Galatasaray.  UEFA handed out a one year ban to Galatasaray this past week for Financial Fair play infractions.  Also, it seems that it could get worse for Trabzonspor as their number one between the sticks is out for a bit.

The podcast wraps up with our rundown of the PTT 1st division and the women’s 1st division.  The PTT 1st division had a pretty interesting string of results the previous week.
