Episode 336: Shutting Down Vagner’s Love

May 25, 2017

It looks like the title race could be over after this weekend.  The relegation dogfight might be done as well.  The playoffs for getting promoted out of the second tier will be set to get underway.

Week 32 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  Istanbul Basaksehir stumbled in Trabzon, while Besiktas took care of business at home.  The race for third continues to heat up, while the race for fifth takes another twist.  Akhisar Belediyespor has nothing to play for, but they still continue their high flying ways.  The Week 33 schedule gets a rundown.

A comment in passing leads to a discussion of what kinds of promotions clubs can do in order to attract fans and generate new supporters.  Some ideas could be absurd, but some of them should be forwarded to the clubs.

The TFF first division wrapped up their regular season this past week.  The final week’s results are run down, and the promotional playoff matchups are discussed.

A couple of newsbites conclude the episode.  One is about a potential new coach on the horizon for Bursaspor.  The other has to do with Olcan Adin reportedly being owed money from Galatasaray and a potential consequence if Adin isn’t paid what he’s owed.

Episode 335: The Mother Of All Dead Rubbers

May 18, 2017

The title race seems like it’s going to go down to the wire.  The relegation dogfight looks to be almost over.  Also, two teams have guaranteed themselves promotion from the second tier, with all to play for in the lower division.

Week 31 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  Two teams are officially doomed to relegation, while one will need the rest of the season to go their way.  Both leaders won their matches, although one had to execute a comeback to win their match.  Akhisar Belediyespor has looked inspired over the last month’s worth of league games to say the least, as they continue their recent explosion of scoring.  Rizespor now has a bigger hole to dig out if they want to stay in the top flight.  The remaining schedule though for Rizespor might be in their favor in comparison with Bursaspor.  The Week 32 schedule gets a rundown.

The Turkish Cup final now has its two participants.  Konyaspor took advantage of having the home field in their second leg match against Kasimpasa.  As for Fenerbahce against Istanbul Basaksehir, it seemed like that match seemed to go on forever (or at least the penalty kick shootout anyway).

The TFF first division wraps up its regular season this weekend.  The teams that will finish in the top two, which are the automatic promotion spots, have now been determined for this season.  Those two teams happen to be playing each other this weekend, so it’s a matter of who wins the division outright.  Two spots for the promotional playoffs will be contested by three teams.  Also, the relegation dogfight is far crazier than the top flight, with five teams still in contention to stay up in the second tier.

This week’s episode concludes with Turkey’s U17s in the U17 Euros.  Unfortunately, Turkey will not be playing for the title.  While Turkey were eliminated, the pundits take a look back at the U17 Turkish national team that won the tournament back in 2005.  It’s more of a “where are they now” sort of discussion.

Episode 334: Stone Cold Talisca

May 12, 2017

It seems we could have a title race.  Nobody would’ve thought that a few weeks ago.  Also, there’s some good news from the younglings in Croatia.

Week 30 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  Istanbul Basaksehir comes through in the clutch against Antalyaspor.  Rizespor and Akhisar Belediyespor decide to score touchdowns (but couldn’t kick the extra point for some reason).  Bursaspor made some history, although it’s the type of first that they would rather not be a part of.  As for the derby, Fenerbahce made off like a thief with a point from Vodafone Arena.  The week 31 schedule gets the rundown.

News this week concerns various subjects.  Genclerbirligi have hired Umit Ozat on a pernament basis, but they’ll have to do without Serdar Gurler for a bit.  Besiktas’ Anderson Talisca incurred the wrath of the PFDK.

The episode wraps up with a discussion of two tournaments.  The second legs of the Turkish Cup semifinals are set to be played in the upcoming midweek.  The pundits preview those matches.  Also, the Turkey U17 national team continues their run at the U17 Euros in Croatia.  The pundits review their matches so far.

Episode 333: Fight Night At Inonu 2 - Electric Boogaloo

May 5, 2017

There’s a derby coming up.  Last week had some interesting results.  Also, Turkey is in an international tournament.

Week 29 results of the Turkish Super League are reviewed.  Istanbul Basaksehir got a clutch win against Besiktas, and they only needed eighteen minutes to do it.  Fenerbahce barely squeaked out a win, but Rizespor certainly gave them a run for their money.  Kayserispor can breathe a sigh of relief in their relegation fight.  Bursaspor got walloped by Galatasaray (and made a little history that they soon would want to forget).  Adanaspor looks to be destined for the drop now (unless a miracle happens).  The week 30 schedule gets the rundown.  The upcoming weekend features the Istanbul derby between Besiktas and Fenerbahce, a rematch from the tense Turkish Cup round of 16 match a few months back.

News this week focuses on Bursaspor and Istanbul Basaksehir.  Istanbul Basaksehir got some good news from the TFF Board of Appeals.  As for Bursaspor, a coaching resignation that was inevitable occurred.  The guys discuss Topcu and whether he was the answer for Bursaspor.  The discussion there leads to a debate about clubs and what their individual club identity is.

Some miscellaneous stuff is also featured this week.  The regular season of the TFF second division (or the third tier) wrapped up, and two historic Turkish clubs have been promoted.  The pundits discuss this and delve into the TFF first division.  It’s getting competitive in terms of the automatic promotion spots there.  The podcast wraps up with a discussion of Turkey participating in the U17 Euros currently being held in Croatia.  The pundits discuss Turkey opening group stage game against Spain.
